About ICWI

Our Mission and Vision
ICWI’s Mission is to build a non-sectarian, left, diasporic membership-based organization that represents the diversity of India’s peoples and anchors a transnational network committed to building a radical and just democracy in India.
ICWI is committed to:
  • Upholding the democratic rights of all peoples in India and the Indian communities in North America
  • Investigating and documenting the violations of these constitutional rights
  • Analyzing how democratic and constitutional rights are impacted by national and international policies
  • Organizing and highlighting people’s collective resistance to gender inequality, caste oppression, religious persecution, majoritarian violence, economic inequality, and state repression
  • Mobilizing public opinion in the Indian diaspora towards addressing these violations against all targeted minority groups

ICWI's Vision

  1. To create an active and engaged Indian diasporic community that supports strategic interventions from social movements aiming to build participatory democracy in India and power in diasporic communities
  2. To create a reliable international network that would produce timely and strong appropriate responses for bringing international attention and rallying around issues of social justice in India
  3. To create and consolidate institutions and revamp infrastructure for the expression of dissent in India
  4. To create an international platform that would offer concrete ways to act in transnational solidarity with activists, journalists, authors and other individuals, organizations, and movements under attack all over the world
